The article is about Aspara, the outstanding medieval city-site of Kazakhstan in the Shu valley. A description of the modern surface and internal layout of the Aspara city-site is given; the history of its study according to written sources of the 7th –16th centuries and materials of archaeological research are described. The author substantiates the historical and cultural significance of the site and the need to implement a comprehensive program of scientific research, conservation and presentation of the Aspara for its inclusion in the sphere of domestic and foreign tourism.
