Every civilization at all times develops as a result of using its previous historical experience. Moreover, this experience can be both positive and negative. In any case, this analysis contributes to the progressive development of society. The famous maxim "without knowledge of the past, it is impossible to build the future", with one variation or another, sounded from the lips of ancient philosophers, ascetics of the Renaissance, modern thinkers. It is no coincidence that in various historical periods, both in the West and in the East, museums were formed as repositories of knowledge accumulated by mankind, the main task of which is to transfer this knowledge to subsequent generations. The museum phenomenon has had a significant impact on the development of the excursion business, as it is also based on educational and pedagogical functions. From our point of view, this material is relevant, since, firstly, as a research task, the author determined an attempt to evaluate the experience of excursion work with young students that existed in Soviet times and the possibility of its application to modern realities. Secondly, this article provides examples of sightseeing activities in the past summer tourist season.
