The study is devoted to the study and assessment of the physical development and functional state of female students of the special medical department (SMD) of L.N. Gumilyov. The main reasons for the prevalence of chronic diseases among girls during the school period of study have been identified. The assessment of the physical development of students of the SMD was carried out using the body mass index (BMI). The relationship between existing diseases and BMI indicators was analyzed. To study the level of the functional state of this contingent of students, functional tests with breath holding were used - Stange and Genchi, Ryufier's test to assess the activity of the cardiovascular system. The results obtained in the course of the study indicate that a third of the surveyed female students of the 1st year of the CMD have certain deviations from the norm in terms of BMI, which in turn entails a certain risk to health. The functional state of the main systems of the body in most students is assessed as «satisfactory» and «unsatisfactory». Evaluation of individual indicators of physical development and the functional state of the body of students will allow the teacher to more competently plan the educational process in the discipline «Physical Education», select the means and methods of teaching, taking into account an individual and differentiated approach.
