The article defines the main problems of the conceptual apparatus of the theory and methodology of physical culture and sports. So, in the concept of "physical culture", it is linking it with the physicality of an individual. "Physical development" is studied in 3 aspects: socio-mental, natural and sexual. The necessity to use a culturological approach in the evaluation of "physical education" is emphasized. "Physical education" includes three closely coordinated elements: physical; personality-oriented; sports education. In the "sportization of physical education", an incorrect point of view is highlighted regarding the close connection of training technology with sports activity.
