Abstract

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT short.) is a method of training aimed at improving the competitive abilities of swimmers, a high level of qualification. The purpose of this review is to find out how much the method is effective and safe for the swimmer of the youth team level. The 27 literary sources that mentioned the HIIT method were analyzed in this paper. In this study, the protocols of various studies aimed at studying the effects of the HIIT method at different rest intervals on the physiological system of the person were used. On the issue of the problem, studies of the effects of HIIT on human physiology, various types of HIIT rest protocols were studied, and other studies of actual results were conducted not only in swimming, but also in other sports. The results showed that HIIT can have a positive effect on most physiological parameters, including the absorption of oxygen by muscle fibers. In addition, the positive effects can be found in the performance of football, rowing, kayaking, cycling and in athletics athletes, when improvements have reached from 6.7 to 20%. These improvements also had an impact on the average recovery time of 60 to 120 seconds. To sum up, the HIIT method provides benefits not only in the performance of young swimmers, but also in most studies. It is important to note that we recommend that further research on the impact of HIIT on the performance of highly skilled swimmers can be determined to determine whether this training can continue to have a positive effect in the at the same time reducing the training load.
