The article discusses the discipline «Gymnastics with teaching methods» in the system of training physical education teachers in higher educational institutions. The formation of competent teaching staff is an important task of the modern system of higher education. In the training of physical education teachers, sports and pedagogical disciplines are given a special place in the educational program. They create the foundation of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and skills of the future teacher. Practical experience in gymnastics is an important component in the professional preparedness of students, necessary for the productive implementation of their teaching activities. Possession of the method of showing gymnastic exercises, knowledge of the technique of performing gymnastic exercises, methods of their training, methods of insurance, etc. – the key to successful work. In the work, with the help of correspondence questionnaires, students' attitude to the discipline, satisfaction with the quality of teaching and conditions, and many other issues related to content, motives, feelings were revealed. As a result of the conducted research, the reasons that complicate the process of training and education in gymnastics were identified.
