The development of cognitive independence of schoolchildren: the expert assessment method

Abstract

The article presents an important aspect of developing Kazakhstani schoolchildren’s cognitive independence – the search for effective methods of studying this process. The study aims to develop, apply and substantiate the diagnostic significance of expert evaluation of experimental work effectiveness aimed at increasing the level of development of cognitive independence of high school students. The formative stage of the experiment included the use of business games and project technology. The study participants were 210 students of grades 10-11 of two secondary schools in Atyrau (Kazakhstan) and expert-teachers. The expert assessment of control and experimental groups’ posttest results revealed differences in 12 criteria. The successful approbation of the expert assessment method allowed to additionally state and confirm the effectiveness of the author’s long-term experimental work on the implementation of the author’s model of the system for the development of high school students’ cognitive independence in physical education lessons. Based on the study results, the author concludes that using the expert assessment method significantly increases the possibility of achieving a substantial increase in quantitative and qualitative indicators of the development of cognitive independence of schoolchildren.
